Mapping Layer 2 with Site24x7
At Site24x7, we know how cumbersome it can be to manually track devices as your network grows. Layer 2 discovery in a nutshell
Layer 2—defined as the data link layer—contains port-to-port connections and linking properties. Layer 2 discovery is based on a set of protocols which act as discovery mechanisms. By default, Site24x7 supports all key protocols including Forwarding Database (FDB), Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), Address Resolution Protocol (ARP), IP route, and Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP).
Mapping Layer 2 with Site24x7
Site24x7 discovers all the devices in your network that are available within your configured IP range. Once you've configured your discovery range, Site24x7 automatically maps your whole network and structurally organizes all devices. Monitored and unmonitored devices are labeled in different colors, and icons denote device type. You can also hover over a device to view its basic details.

Automatically map your network
With defined IP ranges, you don't have to worry about manually adding new devices to the map when they're added to your network. Once you rediscover the map, new devices will show up automatically.
Start monitoring new devices directly from the map
Any unmonitored devices discovered on the map are displayed with options to add them for monitoring instantly. You can also add all devices at once with the bulk add option.
View device relationships
Get a clear picture of relationships between devices by identifying all communication between them. The interface connections between devices are also displayed as colored links based on their current state, and you can view their configuration details as well. This helps you quickly identify connectivity issues.

Check the reachability and obtain the path
You can verify every monitored device's reachability by checking its ping response. It only takes one click to obtain the traceroute of a device.

The map view is designed to help you easily visualize your network and customize it the way you want it. You can also pan and zoom the map to your liking. Explore your network like never before by clicking on any node to view its connections in a separate view. For a bird's-eye view of every device within your network, check the map inventory on the right pane. Discover the full extent of your network, effortlessly, at a glance.
