Performance Metrics for VMware Cluster Monitors

Monitor VMware clusters to understand their Effective Storage capacity, Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) Configuration, DRS Faults, DRS Migrations, Total Storage Consumed, VM Operations, Memory Usage, and more in the user's environment. The VMware Cluster monitor is automatically added while adding vCenter monitor.

By monitoring a VMware cluster, you can:

  • Understand the CPU and memory usage across the entire cluster.
  • Add a threshold and availability profile to declare a specific resource as critical or down.
  • Analyze critical performance issues using reports.
  • With a DRS Cluster, you can collect DRS Configuration, DRS Faults, DRS Migrations, and DRS Recommendation.

Performance Metrics

Summary

Attribute Description
Effective Memory Displays the effective memory resources (MB) available to run VMs.This is the aggregated effective resource level in all VMware ESX/ESXi hosts to run the VMs.
Effective CPU Displays the effective CPU resources (MHz) available to run VMs. This is the aggregated effective resource level in all VMware ESX/ESXi hosts to run the VMs.
Total Storage Consumed Displays the aggregated storage space available under cluster.
Total Datastore Capacity vs Usage Displays the comparison graph of total datastore capacity (MB) and the actual amount used (MB).
Cluster Details Displays various information such as CPU Cores, CPU Threads, CPU Capacity (MHz), and Memory Capacity (GB).
DPM Configuration Displays the configuration details of Distributed Power Management (DPM) feature, if enabled in the cluster.

DRS Configuration

Attribute Description
High Availability Configuration Displays the details on the configurations of high availability feature.
DRS Configuration Configuration of DRS cluster.
DRS Faults A collection of the DRS faults generated in the last DRS invocation.
DRS Recommendations List of recommended actions for the cluster.
DRS Migrations The set of migration decisions that have recently been performed.

CPU

Attribute Description
CPU Details  Displays the information of CPU such as CPU Threads, Total CPU (MHz), CPU Used (%), CPU Used (MHz), Effective CPU Used (%), and Effective CPU Used (MHz).
Cluster CPU Capacity  Displays the the total CPU capacity of the cluster (MHz).
Effective CPU vs CPU Used Displays the comparison graph of effective CPU (the aggregated effective resource level in all VMware ESX/ESXi hosts to run the VMs which is represented in MHz), and actual CPU used.
Effective CPU   Displays the effective CPU resources (MHz) available to run VMs. This is the aggregated effective resource level in all VMware ESX/ESXi hosts to run the VMs.
