vCenter Monitoring
Auto-discover your entire virtual infrastructure through VMware vCenter and visualize critical metrics in one view.
Prerequisites
- Site24x7 On-Premise Poller.
- Access to Managed Object Browser.
- VMware Read-only or Administrator roles to monitor vCenter. Learn more about the privileges required to monitor other VMware resources.
Add a VMware vCenter Monitor
- Log into your Site24x7 account.
- Go to the Admin tab and select vCenter (under Virtualization) in Add Monitor page.
- Specify the following information to add the VMware vCenter monitor:
- Display Name: Specify a name to identify the vCenter.
- vCenter Name or IP Address: Specify the IP address or domain name of the vCenter.
- Port: Specify the port number where the server is running.
- Check Frequency: Choose a polling frequency from the drop down list.
- Location Profile: Select the location profile from the drop-down list from where the vCenter can be monitored. To know more, refer Location Profile.
- Associate with Monitor Group(s): Select a monitor group from the drop-down list to logically group your monitors.
To learn how to create a group for your monitors, refer Monitor Groups. - Dependent on monitor: From the drop-down, select the monitor on which this monitor has to depend on. You can add up to 5 monitors as dependents. Site24x7 will suppress alerts for the configured vCenter monitor if the dependent monitor is already down.
- VMware User Credentials: Choose the appropriate credentials stored in the Site24x7 Credential Profile or add new ones.
- Toggle yes or no to Discover and Auto-add resources. By enabling this, the resources running on this vCenter will be discovered automatically and added as individual monitors for monitoring.
- Clusters: Toggle Yes to enable monitoring for every Cluster in the vCenter. The discovered Clusters will be listed under VMware > VMware Cluster.
- ESX/ESXi hosts: Toggle Yes to enable monitoring ESX/ESXi hosts. The discovered hosts will be listed under VMware > ESX/ESXi Host. By enabling yes, you'll be able to bulk-add all the resources in one go. You can also monitor the associated hosts in depth, with various performance metrics and also save the time of manually adding them separately for monitoring.
- Resource Pools: Toggle Yes to enable monitoring for resource pools at the cluster level. You can view them under VMware > Resource Pools.
If you do not wish to monitor these at the ESX/ESXi host level, you can disable auto-adding of resource pools from your corresponding ESX/ESXi host's edit monitor form.
- Specify the following details for Configuration Profiles, Alert Settings, and Third-Party Integrations:
- Tags: Associate your monitor with predefined Tag(s) to help organize and manage your monitors creatively. Learn how to add Tags.
- IT Automation: Select an automation to be executed when the VMware ESX/ESXi server is down / trouble / up / any status change / any attribute change. The defined action gets executed when there is a state change and selected user groups are alerted. To automate corrective actions on failure, refer IT Automation.
- User Alert Group: Select the user group that needs to be alerted during an outage.
To add multiple users to a group, see User Groups. - Notification Profile: Choose a notification profile from the drop-down list or select the default profile available. Notification profile helps to configure when and who gets notified in case of downtime.
Refer Notification Profile to create a customized notification profile. - Third Party Integration: Associate your monitor with a pre-configured third-party service. It lets you push your monitor alarms to selected services and facilitate improved incident management.

- Click Save.
